Woohoo! Never knew an adventure trip can be so fun. Been wanting to do something like this for a long time. Glad my siblings and cousin were game for such trip! I’m sure many more of such trips to come!
Anyway, we had a good bargain at the Malaysia travel fair in oct period. With S$205 all-in package, you get to enjoy 3d2n hotel stay with breakfast included, Sri maju bus rides to and fro Ipoh and Singapore, white water rafting with transportation and lunch provided.
Ipoh is in perak also known as a mountain city. The surroundings are mostly mountains. Beautiful!
Oh well, you gotta bear for like 6-7hrs of long bus rides, I’m good with that cos I just sleep throughout as it was sleeping time with occasional toilet breaks. We arrived in Ipoh at 5ish in the am. Thank goodness we manage to check in and take a short nap before we went for our breakfast dim sum at a hong kong street dim sum place just behind our hotel. We tried yoke fook moon hong kong dim sum restaurant, served by aunties. We had quite a bit of fried foodie.. Overall not too bad! The har-kao, herbal jelly not bad. The recommended dish from Internet is the char siew bao which I don’t find it fantastic, probably too sweet for me! (140ringgit for 6persons)
Another place we went for breakfast was the Ming court just at opposite street. I preferred the food here at smaller portion and taste better. The siew Mai, yam, carrot cake were pretty good. (66ringgit for 6persons)
Our lunch was at a nearby restaurant where we ate Penang kway teow (superb), prawn mee soup (excellent), fried fritters with either banana, jackfruit and my favourite combination yam, rice cake and sweet potato, the crust was very well done! We also ate their Ipoh hor fun with fried stuff (think yong tau Fu). Their hor fun was the thin version and smooth!! And we ended off with caramel custered at the kopitiam! Surprised that such desert was served by the drink stall, very soft and tender, sweetness was just right! Yummy! Then we went over to secret recipe to grab some desert! Yummy yummy! Another desert to have was their 糖水 very traditionally made, they used charcoal to brew them. We had Cheng deng, 大麦,红豆沙. Fabulous!
We had Ipoh hor fun with chicken (not fantastic) beansprouts (excellent!! We ate 2 large plates), chicken feet (well-marinated and soft) and chicken kidney (crunchy) and liver (melts in your mouth.. Omg!)
Then we went for some light shopping and supper at marrybrown! Another must try foodie when ya at m’sia!!! Well marinated, not much fats probably they are kampung chicken that’s why!
During the last night, we traveled for 1 hr to another town for seafood dinner. It was cheap and good. Huge steamed tiger prawns, steamed fish, baktu vegetable with chilli, toufu with silverfish, herbal chicken. (140ringgit for 6persons)
That’s all for the foodie we had! Now on the more adventurous part! We went to Gua Tempurang for caving! We took taxi to and fro about 130 ringgit. The entrance fee of 11 ringgit! Super worth it for what it had to offer! The lady told us the water level was until knee level. Sound reasonable on how much we would need to get wet. The negative part was we had only 1 guide for 80 people!!! We were with the students’ group.. So it was very noisy!
Off we went into the cave, the limestone was beautiful. We walked on our path with river water flowing down. It felt like refugees running for our lives. Keep moving! Then we had to go on our fours to crawl under the limestone. Our bodies were totally wet! Knee level water true enough but we had to go on our fours lo! What an experience! Worth it for 11 ringgit.
Then the tour guide told us we had to slide down a portion. Quite dangerous it seemed but quite fun. Luckily my bro was there to catch me! Hero! Hehe. Super worth it for 11 ringgit!
Then the tour guide told us we need to get into this hole on the ground to go to another side! Wah super super worth it. Where to find such good deal! We squeezed into the hole and continued our journey.
To our surprise, we saw a magnificent view of how the limestone formed a beautiful picture..with waterfall feature and stuff! Wahhhhh.. Didn’t expect this. Can fight with what I saw in china! I’m amazed you could find such treasure here! Then we climbed another 200fleets of stairs to get out of the place. As they said there’s always light at the end of tunnel! We were famished after the vigorous exercise.
The next exciting activity we done was white water rafting organized by riverbug at my gopeng resort. Over here, they have waterfall abseiling, caving, jungle trekking and etc…fun fun fun. But do prepare yourself for mosquitoes feeding session when you’re there. Fierce! Anyway, thank goodness for the invention of insect repellent to drive them away.
It was a 10km long river with about 9 rapids to go with. Very fun and exciting. There was a safety briefing conducted to run through some of the drills and got us prepared before we went down. We went down with 16boats together with Singapore Cedar’s girls.
Down the stream we went…at one of the rapids, my dear Niki fell into the water accidentally. OMG! Something funny was how she calmly ..she seemed to be revising those drills that Max taught us. And we went over to rescue her, with my brother and Yuen Han pulling her back into the boat. PHEW! Glad she’s not hurt! But i guess it was a helluva experience for her man. haha.
One negative part was the waiting time a bit too long cos we needed to wait for our buddy boats to go together for safety reason. Anyway as we rowed along, we saw a lot of trees like the banana, rambutan, cotton, durian trees. We were hoping for some durians to drop into our boat so that we could have some sort of feast! But they didn’t! GeeeZZz!
It was a shoik feeling, very peaceful environment…really love how close we are to nature. Enjoy the sun, the greenery, the river and company..Nice! After the vigorous exercise we had, we had a Malay buffet. Yummy! This really inspires my family to go for more exciting trips like the water rafting in Sabah and Kota Kinabalu mountain climbing.
Thanks everyone for making this trip possible and fun. Making every moment counts! Thanks sis for organizing this. Woohoooo!!!!
