[Fun stuff]: Holiday at Cambodia

It has been a humbling experience so far, visiting the lives of the Cambodians. It probably might have look like Singapore in her 60s-70s period.

Our local friend introduced us to hotel luxury world where the staff could speak bits of mandarin and English. Friendly and helpful I would say. The room that we stayed in was pretty well-furnished. Clean energy.

Here are some pics (to be inserted soon) of the hotel. Pretty decent room at abt US$30 per night with breakfast provided.

Some places we went to in Phom Penh (pictures to be inserted soon)

1. Mekong river (where you find eateries and tourist attraction nearby)
2. National museum
3. Royal palace
4. Naga world (where you find the only casino in the city)
5. Russian market (think Bangkok chachuchak market pretty similar. Find paintings, clothes, antiques, silver, gem stones)
6. Central market (much cleaner and organized than Russian market)
7. Khmer food and some street food
Our local friend brought us to the park restaurant for buffet abt US$7.50 where you find Khmer food, seafood and some western food. Pretty good to taste clean local food. We tried a tropical fruit drink blended (ta-dur-lock) very rich, smooth and super sweet. Good to try a bit.

We pushed our limits to try Cambodian style of Subway. Surprisingly awesome! Toasted bread with ham, veg and etc. Then we saw this thick beehoon dish beside it and we ordered it. Apparently you need to add some lemon sauce on the dish. The taste of it is good too, refreshing! Both cost US$3. Must try!

There was a convenience store beside it selling bakery.. We bought a burger and sausage bread (looked like mini pizza). Nice too! Yummy!

We wanted to go Siem Reap during our 1 week stay here. The domestic tickets was crazily expensive US$190 round trip for one. Probably cos only one airline was providing this service. In the end, our local friend advised us to get bus tickets from our hotel which they can help to arrange. And it is only at US$16 round trip for one – limousine van luxury. You can get for US$10 if you want.

We stayed in palm village resort, slightly out of town. Pretty cosy place with friendly staff who can speak English. They can arrange your tuktuk and sight-seeing places for you. We engaged a local English speaking tour guide who shared with us the ang Kor wat and other temples’ history. He took quite a few pictures for us where he knew what were the angles to capture and also introduced us to boat trip. His name is mr lim seiha, US$25 per day. Good service.

Here are some pictures taken under the scorching sun of siem reap! (to be inserted later)

Unfortunately after a steam bath at the resort, I fell ill – stmoach flu. Guessed my stomach cannot take the street food . So just be careful when you eat. Luckily it happened during the last part of the trip when we were about to go home – farewell gift sia!

Acting class begins 31 May!

Hey everyone,
I finally pluck up the courage to go for acting classes. It has been a childhood dream of mine. Remember when we were once young, our teachers and friends would ask what is your ambition.

I had a few of them – actress, singer, lawyer and etc. I’m more keen to explore the first two now. 人因梦想而伟大。

My new year resolution for this year was to take up acting classes! Finally! Dionis and I are going for it, it really helps to do things in a group, speed up the entire process.

People are always stuck at planning and planning and we sometimes forgot to act on it. So just shut up and do it!

Pretty excited about the upcoming classes, wonder what opportunities would come out from there. Would my teacher be able to help me find some answers to what I’m searching for.

Recently, Dionis spreads the Taiwan idol drama flu to me.. And I was back on chasing some of the shows. The Taiwan idol show could really just melts your heart and let you go awwwww.

Wish I could act as well as them that’s why I’m making a baby step to go for some classes ya! Let’s just wait and see!

Lately, I just finished a detox experiment with Dionis again.. She’s my partner in crime man. Heh! We were testing out fibre drinks and s-class drink that claim to help you curb appetite, burns calories and cleanse your colons. We really shit the hell out of us! Super super super massive physical clearing from our intestines. Until my mum called me a “shit pail” literally cos’ she always sees me in the washroom. But gotta say that i feel much cleaner.

I’m happy that my eating habits improved and my weight has gone down quite a fair bit. About down by 1.2kg since the start of my 30-days experiment. Btw, I still eat my favourite food, just that I cut down on my portions. Hehe!

Read more at 30 days detox experiment

Hey all,

Had a fun time volunteering at Story Challenge 2010 by The Theatre Practice, students from primary to Junior College are given 15 minutes to come up with an impromptu story with given condition that needs to be included in their story.

Found quite a few new friends who go for chinese stage production, seldom we could find people who like such stuff. We chanced upon this Theatre drama course conducted by top notch Hong Kong, Taiwan veterans to share more about this industry. Goodies.

Cheers,

Zeo

Went for a walk around the area… And we all felt like singing Ktv! So we went … Haha. Pretty spontaneous! Fun singing especially when we have a pub ang mo singer with us, Vicki! Seldom to find people who can sing well, appreciate that! Dionis introduced us to her idol show songs… Wah! And we finally found her genre of songs! Yeppy! Nice nice… No more jaychou 简单爱! Hehe

Would love to have another Ktv session soon! Woohoo!

[Fun stuff] Ipoh white water rafting trip

Posted by Zeoane | Posted in Fun Stuff | Posted on 16-11-2009

Tags: , , ,

Woohoo! Never knew an adventure trip can be so fun. Been wanting to do something like this for a long time. Glad my siblings and cousin were game for such trip! I’m sure many more of such trips to come!

Anyway, we had a good bargain at the Malaysia travel fair in oct period. With S$205 all-in package, you get to enjoy 3d2n hotel stay with breakfast included, Sri maju bus rides to and fro Ipoh and Singapore, white water rafting with transportation and lunch provided.

Ipoh is in perak also known as a mountain city. The surroundings are mostly mountains. Beautiful!

Oh well, you gotta bear for like 6-7hrs of long bus rides, I’m good with that cos I just sleep throughout as it was sleeping time with occasional toilet breaks. We arrived in Ipoh at 5ish in the am. Thank goodness we manage to check in and take a short nap before we went for our breakfast dim sum at a hong kong street dim sum place just behind our hotel. We tried yoke fook moon hong kong dim sum restaurant, served by aunties. We had quite a bit of fried foodie.. Overall not too bad! The har-kao, herbal jelly not bad. The recommended dish from Internet is the char siew bao which I don’t find it fantastic, probably too sweet for me! (140ringgit for 6persons)

Another place we went for breakfast was the Ming court just at opposite street. I preferred the food here at smaller portion and taste better. The siew Mai, yam, carrot cake were pretty good. (66ringgit for 6persons)

Our lunch was at a nearby restaurant where we ate Penang kway teow (superb), prawn mee soup (excellent), fried fritters with either banana, jackfruit and my favourite combination yam, rice cake and sweet potato, the crust was very well done! We also ate their Ipoh hor fun with fried stuff (think yong tau Fu). Their hor fun was the thin version and smooth!! And we ended off with caramel custered at the kopitiam! Surprised that such desert was served by the drink stall, very soft and tender, sweetness was just right! Yummy! Then we went over to secret recipe to grab some desert! Yummy yummy! Another desert to have was their 糖水 very traditionally made, they used charcoal to brew them. We had Cheng deng, 大麦,红豆沙. Fabulous!

We had Ipoh hor fun with chicken (not fantastic) beansprouts (excellent!! We ate 2 large plates), chicken feet (well-marinated and soft) and chicken kidney (crunchy) and liver (melts in your mouth.. Omg!)

Then we went for some light shopping and supper at marrybrown! Another must try foodie when ya at m’sia!!! Well marinated, not much fats probably they are kampung chicken that’s why!

During the last night, we traveled for 1 hr to another town for seafood dinner. It was cheap and good. Huge steamed tiger prawns, steamed fish, baktu vegetable with chilli, toufu with silverfish, herbal chicken. (140ringgit for 6persons)

That’s all for the foodie we had! Now on the more adventurous part! We went to Gua Tempurang for caving! We took taxi to and fro about 130 ringgit. The entrance fee of 11 ringgit! Super worth it for what it had to offer! The lady told us the water level was until knee level. Sound reasonable on how much we would need to get wet. The negative part was we had only 1 guide for 80 people!!! We were with the students’ group.. So it was very noisy!

Off we went into the cave, the limestone was beautiful. We walked on our path with river water flowing down. It felt like refugees running for our lives. Keep moving! Then we had to go on our fours to crawl under the limestone. Our bodies were totally wet! Knee level water true enough but we had to go on our fours lo! What an experience! Worth it for 11 ringgit.

Then the tour guide told us we had to slide down a portion. Quite dangerous it seemed but quite fun. Luckily my bro was there to catch me! Hero! Hehe. Super worth it for 11 ringgit!

Then the tour guide told us we need to get into this hole on the ground to go to another side! Wah super super worth it. Where to find such good deal! We squeezed into the hole and continued our journey.

To our surprise, we saw a magnificent view of how the limestone formed a beautiful picture..with waterfall feature and stuff! Wahhhhh.. Didn’t expect this. Can fight with what I saw in china! I’m amazed you could find such treasure here! Then we climbed another 200fleets of stairs to get out of the place. As they said there’s always light at the end of tunnel! We were famished after the vigorous exercise.

The next exciting activity we done was white water rafting organized by riverbug at my gopeng resort. Over here, they have waterfall abseiling, caving, jungle trekking and etc…fun fun fun. But do prepare yourself for mosquitoes feeding session when you’re there. Fierce! Anyway, thank goodness for the invention of insect repellent to drive them away.

It was a 10km long river with about 9 rapids to go with. Very fun and exciting. There was a safety briefing conducted to run through some of the drills and got us prepared before we went down. We went down with 16boats together with Singapore Cedar’s girls.

Down the stream we went…at one of the rapids, my dear Niki fell into the water accidentally. OMG! Something funny was how she calmly ..she seemed to be revising those drills that Max taught us. And we went over to rescue her, with my brother and Yuen Han pulling her back into the boat. PHEW! Glad she’s not hurt! But i guess it was a helluva experience for her man. haha.

One negative part was the waiting time a bit too long cos we needed to wait for our buddy boats to go together for safety reason. Anyway as we rowed along, we saw a lot of trees like the banana, rambutan, cotton, durian trees. We were hoping for some durians to drop into our boat so that we could have some sort of feast! But they didn’t! GeeeZZz!

It was a shoik feeling, very peaceful environment…really love how close we are to nature. Enjoy the sun, the greenery, the river and company..Nice! After the vigorous exercise we had, we had a Malay buffet. Yummy! This really inspires my family to go for more exciting trips like the water rafting in Sabah and Kota Kinabalu mountain climbing.

Thanks everyone for making this trip possible and fun. Making every moment counts! Thanks sis for organizing this. Woohoooo!!!!

Hey peeps!

Just came back from a lovely Bangkok trip with Dionis and Vicki, really shop till you drop, eat till you are super full man. What do you do besides shopping and shopping? Shopping and shopping?! haha. It was really fun hanging out with the girls and chilling out.

We stayed in this boutique hotel called Salil hotel at Soi 8 near Nana station. Pretty decent place with nice interior and relatively good customer service and breakfast.

Pretty good and affordable massages around, one of the them we went had really nice interiors and good customer service. Pretty popular among the foreigners (can’t remember the name but it stated family prices or affordable prices something like that).

We went to Chatchuchak market on Saturday morning, the sun was scorching hot man! Bring along your hat, umbrella and water. Put sunblock too! Some of the roadside food we taken like the chicken sausages with rice in them (tasty. Add their chilli sauce. Superb!) We had some cute ice cream too that came with many flavours like milk tea, durian, chocolate and etc.

We had pretty good restaurant near our hotel and we visited this placed called “Monsoon Cafe” which served pretty good food. Check out the pics and what a spread we have. We were basically starving cos we went for a 2hr plus massage! You can imagine how hungry we were! Hungry people are angry people! Show me the foodie!!! Not forgetting our occasion hi-tea time for fresh and cheap sashimi which you can get for S$20. Korean foodie at Korean town (Alight at asoke station) which you can easily pay S$20 too!

sashimi

We had a superb time at Platinum plaza..shop like nobody’s business. You would probably need 2 days to finish visiting the plaza! It closed at 730pm so you gotta hurry! It was fun getting very affordable and pretty stuff. I almost got a headache while looking at where the hell to start man! It’s like so much so much so much!! OMGGGG!!!! You won’t find any pictures taken there cos we were too busy shopping! haha.

You really wanna see how much we bought?! Almost half of the bed is mine!!!

Hey all,

Recently, I had my first family run where a few of us including my mum and cousins took part in a 5km run at East Coast Park.  Mum and I ran for about 100m, she stopped and ran at quite a fast speed, so I had to remind her to slow down. In any case she was fabulous! Still going strong!

Awesome Phuket trip!!!

Posted by Zeoane | Posted in Fun Stuff | Posted on 10-08-2009

Woohoo! Just came back from Phuket trip. Fantastic! It was super duper relaxing, no work, just fun and fun! Had my daily dosage of Thai massages, mango with sticky rice and lots of walking!

Booked a saturday and sunday day-tours to explore islands and caves. It was a group of 8 of us and we went on a small ship to travel up to the north of Phuket. It was s bumpy ride but refreshing cos of the wind and sound of waves. We has fried chicken on board for snacks. Then we went to explore the caves which was quite an adventure. When it was low tide, our captain led us to another area, with water at our knee cap or near hip area can be quite a thrill. Then we had lunch on the beach, the cook bought fresh prawns from the fishermen who were out in the sea. She cooked us tom yum soup, curry chicken and rice.yummy!

Went to phi phi island on Sunday, crazy boat ride for 1.5hrs. But the scenery was worth it! Crystal clear water. Would love to visit again. Maybe go visit krabi island too.

Alrighty going to rest! Night!

Whoppie!!! I passed my driving, can finally drive on the road. Just beware of me cos I’m a newbie! Just had my driving test yesterday, purposely took leave for that. Had lesson in the morning and warm up in the afternoon at ubi driving centre. It was freaking scary .. I guessed nervousness has came to visit me. And there I was focusing on my breathing. But when I breathed too hard, my car kissed the kerb. Luckily the total points I got detucted was less than 18. Phew! What a relief!

I’m waiting for my license to arrive and waiting for my cousin to donate her p plate to me. Hehe.

My mum was saying if I pass, she’ll treat me to a good dinner. Think my family was surprised that I passed. Hehe. My siblings were busy updating me on what to look out for prior to the test. My bro was super sweet to drive me to my test venue. So touched!

P/s: I can blog easily from iPhone from now on. It is really cool!

Hi all, with the recent launch of iphone 3Gs which I have waited for awhile. I was filled with excitement to go get it on a friday night after work. But when I reached there, there was a super duper long queue. And I thought probably I had pre-ordered so there might be a separate queue. OMG! There was a queue but everyone seemed to have pre-ordered! Estimated 4 hours of wait! My sis and mum wanted to meet me there to pick me up which we have all innocently thought, how long that would take to pick up a phone right especially since I have pre-ordered. OMG! We were so wrong. It was 4.5 hours of wait, and we have toured around Singtel building and served with desert, junk food and water which was quite a good tactic to calm the crowd down. But well expectations increased as we went through the different waiting area. Behind each curtain, there was another massive queue. You can kill me man! omg! Hopefully we can have our product delivered to our door step next time.

I guessed it’s a super good publicity for Singtel where people crazily waited for their turn to get their iphone 3Gs. Well, sometimes we just have to do certain things in life for once will do. This iphone 3Gs better last me for a real long long time. But I must say it is a pretty smart phone. My first time to switch from Nokia to iphone. Time for a change. Furthermore I had another $100 off for the phone cos I’m from Starhub. So I’m going to pay just $188 for my new phone. Pretty impressed with Singtel’s marketing of this phone and how they have gotten consumers to pre-ordered online and the user journey was pleasant and simple. At least I won’t feel frustrated while I place my order.

This phone launch promotion must have taken away a lot of customers from M1 and Starhub. Wonder what measures the other two telcos going to do.

Pretty excited about my data bundle once I switched over to Singtel. And still exploring other features on the phone.

Till then,

Zeoane
